What to expect from The Female Edge

Writing a book is a huge undertaking, but it is also deeply fulfilling when you hear back from your target readership that it is valuable and insightful to them. I was very lucky to have that encouragement from many professional women as I was writing the Female Edge which will be coming out next month.

One of the people I was fortunate enough to meet during the writing process was fellow author of @rethinkpress, Helen Appleby. Her book The Unwritten Rules of Women's Leadership had so many synergies with my own that I was delighted when she agreed to write the foreword for my book.

This is what she had to say:

Women offer unique, much needed qualities and perspectives for company success. When women succeed companies perform better, so everyone wins. Despite that, there are still many unseen barriers to their success. Mary’s book is a framework for women on their career journey that gives actionable tools to help navigate and powerful questions to challenge and develop our thinking. Mary’s EDGE model is a four-step model to Evaluate what got you here, Define where you want to go, Grow to be the leader you want to be and Empower your success. In all stages she offers practical tools and frameworks to manage the internal and external challenges that leadership brings. I wish I had read Mary’s book early in my career journey; although I succeeded in corporate life, living and working in six countries, I struggled with stakeholder management, conflict and making my work visible. Navigating work was like walking a tightrope, and the courses I attended didn’t teach me what I really needed to know. I figured it out along the way and eventually ran a billion-dollar business, but Mary’s wisdom in my ear and this book, with a practical model, would have made my journey so much easier! Mary brings years of leadership, coaching, consulting, and HR experience, along with her warm and straightforward style to make this book real, practical, useful and readable.

It is essential reading if you are ambitious to succeed, or if you are struggling to be seen, paid or promoted the way you deserve to be. Enjoy! Helen Appleby, author of The Unwritten Rules of Women’s Leadership
